Encounter Montmartre: A French-Inspired Residential Design

Bringing the Artistic Vibes of Montmartre to Life

Inspired by the famous Montmartre Plateau in Paris, Encounter Montmartre is a residential space that captures the essence of art and creativity. Designed by Stephy Teng, this project seamlessly blends functionality with artistic elements, creating a unique and harmonious living experience.

Under the concept of French Montmartre, Encounter Montmartre features a stable wooden tone that runs throughout the space. The entryway is adorned with rounded wooden cabinets, creating a visual connection with the corridor. With shelves, display cabinets, and wooden gratings, the space is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional.

The designer took advantage of the beautiful natural landscapes surrounding the space and reimagined the spatial layout to create a harmonious blend of nature and design. By transforming the traffic flow in each area and using different materials, Encounter Montmartre achieves a perfect balance between space and nature.

The realization of this design involved the use of various technologies and materials. Floor heating equipment, imported kitchenware, carpets, special paints, wooden elements, French windows, grating, leather furnishings, marbles, modeling lightings, wall lamps, and system cabinets were carefully selected and incorporated into the design.

Encounter Montmartre spans 63-ping and includes three bedrooms, two living rooms, and three bathrooms. The overall theme is modern and minimalist, with a selection of materials that create a calm and gracious spatial feeling. Glass materials, ironware, and lighting fixtures are strategically placed to emit a refreshing and trendy vibe.

The space itself is designed to encourage interaction and connectivity. Unlike traditional single-wall outlines, wooden walls and cabinets subtly separate each area while providing additional functionality for displaying and storing items. The open-end method allows natural light to flow into the living room, dining room, and kitchen, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere.

Encounter Montmartre was brought to life in Taipei, Taiwan, with the project commencing in March 2021 and concluding in August 2021. Extensive research was conducted to ensure that the design embodied the essence of European art forms while providing a pleasant and rich-layered living experience.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was the uneven and unstable flooring of the newly-constructed house. To overcome this, the designer repaved the floor with cement to achieve a level surface. Wooden veneers and furnishings were then carefully selected and placed to ensure a consistent and complete spatial design.

Encounter Montmartre is a testament to the designer's commitment to creating a space that embodies romantic philosophies and pure material selections. The open-end public area features light gray, wooden tones, and beige accents, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Modeling lightings delicately decorate the space, adding a touch of luxury. In the private area, vibrant hues on walls and furnishings represent the endless inspirations and interests of life.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges the practicality, innovation, and professional qualities of Encounter Montmartre, making it a true masterpiece in the world of design.
